The journey through fertility treatment can be long and arduous. With frequent visits to the doctor, nightly injections, hormone fluctuations and worries about money, many patients feel very isolated from the rest of the world. It is important, however, for patients to realize that they are not alone in this process. There are literally thousands of other people going through the exact same steps and experiencing many of the same emotions. The shared experience of these people can serve as a source of strength and help make the process more tolerable. In addition to physical support groups (which can be found at www.resolve.org), there are several online communities to share your feelings and read what other people are doing.
One new site which is worth looking at is called Clomid and Cabernet (www.clomidandcabernet.com ). It is written by Katie Hurley, a licensed psychotherapist and parenting expert who has had her own unique experience with the fertility journey. In addition to being a gifted writer and talented therapist, Katie has a keen sense of humor which can be useful throughout this process! The site provides many tools including an online forum to share your experience as well as an ask the expert section written by our very own Dr. Kalan.
